Manchester United could make an offer to sign 21 years old as Mount deal continues to be held up
Man United could make an offer for Moises Caicedo, as Chelsea remain firm on Mason Mount.
Manchester United are looking to add a new midfielder to the ranks this summer. That much is obvious. What’s also a given is the fact that Mason Mount is the number one target.
Erik ten Hag’s side have seen three bids for the Englishman knocked back, though the latter offer does remain on the table, at least for the time being.
However, the club are now exploring other options – including Moises Caicedo.
It’s the usually reliable Simon Stone of the BBC who provides the latest on Mount, claiming that United are ‘convinced’ the player wants to make the move. However, the Reds will not wait around forever.
One player they could turn to is actually a Chelsea target in Caicedo. The Brighton man had a stellar 2022/23 season.
According to the report, United could make their own offer to sign the 21-year-old as the Mount deal continues to be held up. That could disrupt Chelsea, who are also keen on Caicedo.
At this point, a move for Caicedo seems pretty likely. The man from Ecuador played three brilliant games against the Red Devils, bossing Casemiro, particularly in that FA Cup semi-final.
Sure, he may be more expensive than Mount, but he’s also a few years younger. I’d actually argue he represents better value in the long run.
Plus, the fact that it’d annoy Chelsea, by signing their transfer target, would be a nice way to silence them after the Mount debacle. To put the cherry on top, Mount could well move to Old Trafford on a free transfer in twelve months’ time anyway.
